What do I need to check out a book?
How many books can I check out? How long can I keep the books I've checked out? What if I haven't finished my book by the time it's due? What is a "hold"? What happens if I return my book late? What happens if my book gets damaged while it's checked out to me? What's the big deal if I have an overdue book or library fines? |
You need your ID card or know your 6-digit student ID number. Your library account must be clear (no overdue books or fines).
You can have up to 5 books at a time. The loan period is 3 weeks. For your convenience, we stamp the due date on a slip at the front of the book. You are responsible for remembering to return your book, so take note! You can renew your book for another 3 weeks, as long as there isn't a hold on the book. When a student wants a book that is already checked out, we put a "hold" on the book. This means that when the book is returned, we hold it for the student who requested it. There is an overdue fine of 5 cents per school day for late books. Be kind: Return or renew on time! You are responsible for keeping your book safe and sound. If it is damaged, you will be fined. Better just to take care of it, eh? Besides the racking guilt you'll feel, you won't be able to check out any more books or use the computers (not even for school work!) until you clear your fines and return your overdue books. |
What do I need to check out a computer?
Can I use the computer to check my email or surf the web? What's a "school-appropriate" site? Can I print a couple pages? Can I print a class set? Can I use your copy machine? |
You need your ID card or know your 6-digit student ID number. Your library account must be clear (no overdue books or fines).
Yes and no. Priority is given to students using the computers for school work. If all of the computers are being used and you are surfing, you may be asked to log off so another student can complete their school work. Otherwise, you're free to surf school-appropriate sites. Basically, if it's something you wouldn't want Mr. Becker to know you're looking at, it's not okay. Remember, you are using a school-owned computer in a public setting, so keep it rated PG. See the RJUHSD Acceptable Use Policy for all the juicy details. Sure! You are welcome to use our black-and-white printer. It's 10 cents per page. Be sure to hit "Print Preview" before you print so you know how many pages your document is. Sorry, no. A member of the library staff would be happy to make copies of library or school materials (for example, an article in a reference book) for you. It's 10 cents per page. |
